UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF NEUROLOGY

Master Thesis

  • Interdisciplinary Master thesis in the field of "Interactive Blood Flow Exploration"

 grouped bloodflow integral curves

For interventional aneurysm treatment, a detailed rupture risk estimation and a deeper insight into blood flow dynamics are crucial. In this thesis an interactive approach for CFD simulations shall be developed based on fiber tract exploration, cluttered integral curves and uncluttered abstracted visualization. The work will be conducted at the Dept. of Simulation and Graphics, OVGU (Bernhard Preim) in tight collaboration with the Dept. of Neurology, OVGU (MedDigit, Steffen Oeltze-Jafra) and Inria France (Tobias Isenberg).

  • Interdisciplinary Bachelor/Master thesis in the domain of "Clinical Decision Support"

BachelorMaster Clinical decision support

Clinical decision-making draws on clinical guidelines that are evidence-based and contain recommendations from an expert panel. Within the proposed work, a prototype is to be developed that enables the “translation” of a clinical guideline into an algorithm for decision support. The prototype should be operable, editable, validatable and available in a digital version.

  • Interdisciplinary Master thesis in the domain of "Deep Learning for the Detection of MR Imaging Biomarkers of Cerebral Small Vessel Disease"

 Masterthesis CSVD-Biomarker

Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease commonly coexist with cerebrovascular diseases in older people. Cerebral small vessel disease (SVD), the most common vascular cause of dementia, is characterized by specific imaging biomarkers in conventional MR scans. In this thesis, automated algorithms for the segmentation/detection of SVD imaging biomarkers shall be developed, implemented and evaluated for the application to a large, local and very heterogeneous MRI database of SVD patients. The effort will be part of the collaboration between the “MedDigit” (Medicine and Digitalization) group and the “Mixed cerebral pathologies and cognitive aging” research group, a multidisciplinary team with profound expertise in both the technical as well as the medical aspects of this thesis.

  • Interdisciplinary Master thesis in the domain of "Characterization of Cerebral Small Vessel Disease-Biomarkers in a Clinical Cohort"

 CSVD Biomarker characterisation

Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease commonly coexist with cerebrovascular diseases in older people. Cerebral small vessel disease (SVD), the most common vascular cause of dementia, is characterized by specific imaging biomarkers in conventional MR scans. Thanks to automated methods, segmentation masks of these imaging biomarkers can be obtained in large numbers with minimal time needed. In this thesis, a variety of different high-level characteristics shall be extracted from the segmented/detected biomarkers of CSVD and potential subtypes/phenotypes and relations identified and analysed. The effort will be part of the collaboration between the “MedDigit” (Medicine and Digitalization) group and the “Mixed cerebral pathologies and cognitive aging” research group, a multidisciplinary team with profound expertise in both the technical as well as the medical aspects of this thesis.

  • Interdisciplinary Bachelor/Master thesis in the domain of "Atlas Generation"

ANT-2

Within this project, clinically acquired magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain data of the past years is processed retrospectively. Using these data the primary task is to create a brain template with the Advanced Normalization Tools (ANTs) which will serve as a reference in diagnosis in neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases. Beyond this, further tasks may vary depending on the individual skillset and type of work.
